How to Make Danish Meatballs

Meatballs are a classic food item in many cultures, but no such meatball exists like the Danish meatball. The Danish meatballs are called Frikadeller in Denmark, and can be traced back for centuries. Though almost every Danish bloodline has their own family meatball recipe, this article is how Danish meatballs are usually made. Feel free to add any spices that you feel necessary!

  • 350 grams extra lean ground beef
  • 150 grams lean ground pork (preferably 8-10% fat)
  • 8 tablespoons breadcrumbs
  • 1 small onion, finely shredded
  • 1/2 cup water (can also be exchanged for milk or not added)
  • 1 3/4 teaspoon slat
  • 2 teaspoon black pepper

  2. Form the meatballs. You will need to roll the meat dough into spheres sized to your preference. Traditionally, meatballs made for dinner would be the a bit smaller than your fist, while half the size for midday meal meatballs. There's enough ingredients for 15 dinner-sized meatballs.
  3. Cook the meatballs.Place the meatballs on the frying pan and bring the temperature to medium-high. Here you can add the butter if needed. Cook until brown. Turn them every 4 minutes or so, for about 15 to 20 minutes, until they are completely cooked through.
  4. Serve and enjoy!Frikadeller is usually served as a main dish to a potato-based side, though it can be eaten as a side dish or appetizer.
