These 3 Canadian Jewelry Designers Are Killing It Right Now
Google doesn’t lie: Canada is where it’s at right now—and likely will remain as such so long as the prospect of a Trump presidency looms and the country’s prime minister keeps doing push-ups next to puppies.
And while you probably don’t need another reason to plot your move to the Great White North, I’m going to give you one anyways: The jewelry up there is really, really good. I discovered this fact about a year and a half ago on a trip home to Toronto, where I came across Jenny Bird’s cool, vaguely witchy collection of shield pendants, chainmail cuffs, and orb collars. There were echoes of Pamela Love—whose pieces I adore, but cannot afford—and a whiff of British Columbia hippie-chick cool.

Perhaps the most telling endorsement: Ivoluntarilysigned up for the mailing list (and haven’t unsubscribed since). That never happens.
Several seasons later, Bird’s aesthetic has evolved—Spring ’16 is all clean lines and negative space—but she’s still one of my favorite designers to shop when I’m feeling patriotic.
And while the Canadian fashion world is tiny compared to that of our downstairs neighbors, the playing field is expanding: Lauren Klassen, a Montreal-based designer, takes everyday, mundane objects such as paper clips, pushpins, and keys and elevates them to luxury accessories by using materials such as 14-karat gold, sterling silver, and tiny white diamonds;Rihanna,Lady Gaga, andCara Delevingneare already fans.
Beaufille, a line designed by Toronto sistersChloéandParris Gordon, earned rave reviews at New York Fashion Week for its textural, wearable womenswear, but the complementary hardware—curlicue earrings, spiral bracelets, stone-tipped collars—was what really caught my eye. For spring, the simple silver ring chokers, ear cuffs, and stackable cuffs are worth saving up for.
Ahead, shop three designers who’ll make you want to hightail it to Canada (and even if you’re sticking around Stateside, don’t worry—they all ship to the US).
